If your hardwood floors look dull, scratched, or uneven in sheen—but the finish is still largely intact—a full sand-down to bare wood isn’t always necessary.   9. Dry, inspect, and decide on a second coat. After cure per label, inspect in raking light. If needed, do a light 320-grit de-nib, vacuum/tack, and apply a second coat for added film build and durability.
  10. Cure and protect. Respect light foot traffic/cure windows. Fit felt pads under furniture feet and avoid area rugs until fully cured to prevent imprinting.

Special Cases

Contamination (wax/silicone): If water beads on the floor after cleaning, you likely have wax or polish residue. Use manufacturer-recommended de-waxers or solvent wipes before sanding, then repeat a water-break test.
